  • 1 tbsp ground cinnamon
  • 1 1/2 tsp ground ginger
  • 1/2 tsp ground allspice
  • 1/2 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1 tsp ground cardamom

  • 1 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 10 tbsp unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated white sugar
  • 1/2 cup brown sugar, packed
  • 3 eggs, at room temperature
  • 1 tbsp vanilla extract
  • 1 cup buttermilk, at room temperature
  • 1 1/4 cups unsalted butter
  • 8 oz cream cheese, cold
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1/2 cup whole milk
  • 2 chai teabags
  • 1/2 cup sweetened condensed milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×13 inch baking pan.
  2. In a bowl, mix flour, spices, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. Cream butter and sugars until light and fluffy; add eggs one by one along with vanilla extract.
  4. Gradually mix in dry ingredients alternating with buttermilk until combined.
  5. Pour batter into the pan and bake for 35–38 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  6. Prepare chai soak by steeping teabags in warm milk; mix in condensed milk and vanilla.
  7. Once cooled, poke holes in the cake and pour chai soak over.
  8. For frosting, beat cream cheese until smooth, then blend in butter and powdered sugar; adjust consistency with milk.
  9. Frost the cooled cake evenly.
