  • 3/4 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 teaspoons cinnamon
  • 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon table salt
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 6 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted & divided
  • 1/4 cup mini chocolate chips
  • 4 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 1 tablespoon heavy cream
  • 1/2 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons dark cocoa powder
  • 2 tablespoons mini chocolate chips

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 400°F and grease an 8×8 pan.
  2. Mix brown sugar, granulated sugar, and cinnamon in a bowl for the filling.
  3. In a large bowl, sift together flour, remaining sugar, baking powder, baking soda, salt, and mini chocolate chips. Create a well in the center and add buttermilk and two tablespoons of melted butter. Stir until soft dough forms.
  4. Knead dough gently on a floured surface about 5-6 times and shape into a rectangle (10×14 inches).
  5. Spread remaining melted butter over the dough and top with cinnamon-sugar mixture.
  6. Roll the dough tightly from one short side into a log shape.
  7. Slice into nine even pieces and place in prepared pan; drizzle with remaining melted butter.
  8. Bake for 20-22 minutes or until golden brown.
  9. For frosting: Beat together cream cheese and heavy cream; gradually add powdered sugar and cocoa powder until smooth.
  10. Frost warm rolls and sprinkle with extra mini chocolate chips if desired.
