Ingredients

Scale
  • 6 boneless chicken thighs (or 2 lbs. chicken tenderloins)
  • ¼ cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tbsp corn starch
  • ¾ cup fresh orange juice
  • 3 tbsps low sodium soy sauce
  • 2 tbsps vegetable oil
  • ½ tbsp grated ginger
  • 2 cloves minced garlic
  • Chili flakes (optional)
  • 1 tsp black pepper (or less to taste, fresh ground)
  • 1 tsp onion powder
  • ½ tsp ginger powder
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 1 tsp paprika (to add color)
  • 1½ tbsp corn starch (for sauce)
  • 1½ tbsp rice vinegar (or white vinegar)

  • 1 tsp orange zest

Instructions

  1. Dice chicken into bite-sized pieces and coat with flour, corn starch, salt, pepper, onion powder, paprika, and ginger powder.
  2. Heat vegetable oil in a frying pan over medium-high heat. Fry the coated chicken until golden brown, about 2–3 minutes per batch.
  3. In a bowl, whisk together orange juice, corn starch, soy sauce, vegetable oil, rice vinegar, brown sugar, ginger, garlic, black pepper, and orange zest to create the sauce.
  4. Combine fried chicken and sauce in a hot skillet; let simmer for 1–2 minutes until well-coated and thickened.
  5. Serve with rice or noodles and garnish as desired.
