  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 large yellow onion, diced
  • 1 lb ground turkey
  • 2 tsp salt (divided)
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp Italian seasoning
  • 5 cloves garlic, minced
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups low-sodium chicken broth
  • 1 (15 oz) can tomato sauce
  • 1 cup half-and-half
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

Instructions

  1. Boil the pasta in salted water until al dente, reserving 1 cup of pasta water before draining.
  2. In a large pan or Dutch oven, heat olive oil over medium heat and sauté the diced onion until translucent (about 5 minutes).
  3. Add ground turkey to the pan, breaking it into small pieces; cook until browned. Season with salt, pepper, and Italian seasoning. Stir in garlic and cook for an additional minute.
  4. Sprinkle flour over the turkey mixture and stir to combine. Pour in chicken broth and tomato sauce; bring to a simmer.
  5. Add cooked pasta and half-and-half to the pan; mix well.
  6. Adjust sauce consistency with reserved pasta water or more half-and-half as desired.
  7. Stir in half of both cheeses; top with remaining cheese. Cover and let melt on low heat.
