  • 1 1/2 lb chicken breast or thighs
  • 1 teaspoon chicken bouillon powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon white pepper
  • 1 tablespoon water
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup cornstarch
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 2 teaspoons vegetable oil
  • 3 tablespoons light soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
  • 2 tablespoons ketchup
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 3 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 3 tablespoons water
  • 4 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 2 teaspoons cornstarch mixed with 3 tablespoons water (for thickening)
  • Green onion (sliced)
  • Toasted sesame seeds

Instructions

  1. Marinate chicken pieces with chicken bouillon powder, white pepper, and water for at least 10 minutes.
  2. In a bowl, mix light soy sauce, rice vinegar, ketchup, honey, brown sugar, and water to create the sauce.
  3. Prepare batter by whisking eggs, flour, cornstarch, baking powder, salt, water, and oil until smooth.
  4. Coat marinated chicken in the batter.
  5. Fry in hot oil until golden brown (first fry at 365°F for 3 minutes; second fry at 375°F for another 2 minutes).
  6. Sauté minced garlic in oil; add sauce mixture and thicken with cornstarch slurry.
  7. Toss fried chicken in the sauce and garnish with green onions and sesame seeds.
