Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 3/4 cup cocoa powder
  • 2 1/4 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup hot water
  • 2 cups unsalted butter, room temperature
  • 1 1/4 cups peanut butter
  • 9 cups powdered sugar
  • 67 tbsp water or milk
  • 6 Reese's, chopped
  • Pinch of salt
  • 6 oz semi-sweet chocolate chips
  • 1/2 cup heavy whipping cream
  • 8 Reese's, cut in half
  • Crumpled Reese's

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 350°F (175°C).
  2. In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
  3. Add milk, vegetable oil, vanilla extract, and eggs. Mix until smooth.
  4. Gradually stir in hot water until well combined.
  5. Pour the batter evenly into prepared cake pans. Bake for about 22 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool in the pans for about 10 minutes, then transfer to a cooling rack.
  6. In another bowl, beat unsalted butter until creamy.
  7. Gradually add peanut butter until mixed well. Slowly incorporate powdered sugar and enough water or milk for desired consistency.
  8. Assemble the cake by placing one layer of chocolate cake on a serving plate and spreading frosting evenly on top. Sprinkle chopped Reese's over frosting. Add the second layer of cake and repeat with frosting and Reese's.
  9. For ganache, heat heavy whipping cream until simmering, pour over semi-sweet chocolate chips in a bowl, let sit for a few minutes then stir until smooth. Drizzle ganache over the assembled cake and garnish with halved Reese's and crumbled Reese's.
