  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, room temperature
  • 1/2 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 1 tbsp vanilla extract
  • 4 large eggs
  • 1 cup buttermilk
  • 5 oz bittersweet chocolate, chopped
  • For frosting: 2 1/4 cups unsalted butter
  • 8 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 cup natural unsweetened cocoa powder
  • 2 tsp vanilla extract
  • 57 tbsp water/cream
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  • Black gel icing color
  • Red gel icing color
  • 4 oz red candy melts
  • 2 tbsp heavy whipping cream
  • Sprinkles

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
  2. In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, cream butter, vegetable oil, and sugar until fluffy. Add eggs one at a time.
  4. Stir in vanilla extract and buttermilk until combined.
  5. Melt the bittersweet chocolate and mix it into half of the batter.
  6. Alternate spoonfuls of each batter into the prepared pans and swirl with a knife for a marble effect.
  7. Bake for about 20 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Let cool before frosting.
