- 2 1/2 tsp baking powder
- 1/4 tsp baking soda
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 cup unsalted butter, room temperature
- 1/2 cup vegetable oil
- 1 1/2 cups sugar
- 1 tbsp vanilla extract
- 4 large eggs
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 5 oz bittersweet chocolate, chopped
- For frosting: 2 1/4 cups unsalted butter
- 8 cups powdered sugar
- 1 cup natural unsweetened cocoa powder
- 2 tsp vanilla extract
- 5–7 tbsp water/cream
- 1/4 tsp salt
- Black gel icing color
- Red gel icing color
- 4 oz red candy melts
- 2 tbsp heavy whipping cream

- Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour two 9-inch round cake pans.
- In a bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
- In another bowl, cream butter, vegetable oil, and sugar until fluffy. Add eggs one at a time.
- Stir in vanilla extract and buttermilk until combined.
- Melt the bittersweet chocolate and mix it into half of the batter.
- Alternate spoonfuls of each batter into the prepared pans and swirl with a knife for a marble effect.
- Bake for about 20 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Let cool before frosting.
