Scale
  • 1 package of firm tofu (16 oz / 454 g)
  • 1 cup of orange juice
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 2 tablespoons tamari or soy sauce
  • 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
  • 1/2 cup neutral oil (like canola)
  • 1/3 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/3 cup cornstarch
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1 tablespoon Sriracha (optional)
  • 2 teaspoons crushed ginger
  • 1 teaspoon minced garlic
  • 1 teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 1 tablespoon orange zest

Instructions

  1. Press and dry the tofu to remove excess moisture, then cut it into bite-sized pieces.
  2. In a bowl, combine flour, cornstarch, garlic powder, salt, and gradually add water until you achieve a slightly runny batter.
  3. Coat the tofu pieces in the batter and fry them in heated oil over medium-high heat until golden brown on all sides.
  4. For the sauce, mix orange juice, sugar, tamari, rice vinegar, ginger, garlic, red pepper flakes, and cornstarch in a bowl; simmer in a skillet until thickened.
  5. Toss the fried tofu in the sauce until well-coated.
  6. Serve hot over steamed rice.
