  • 3 tablespoons all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 6 to 7 cups thinly sliced peeled tart apples (like Granny Smith)
  • 1 tablespoon lemon juice
  • 2 rounds store-bought pie crust
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1 large egg white
  • Additional sugar for sprinkling

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 375°F (190°C). In a small bowl, combine sugars, flour, and spices; set aside.
  2. In a large bowl, toss sliced apples with lemon juice. Add the sugar mixture and coat the apples evenly.
  3. Place one pie crust round in your pie plate, gently pressing it down.
  4. Spoon the apple filling into the crust and dot with butter.
  5. Cover with the second pie crust round, sealing edges and cutting slits on top for steam release.
  6. Brush egg white over the crust for shine and sprinkle with extra sugar.
  7. Bake for about 25 minutes covered loosely with foil, then remove foil and bake until golden brown (20–25 minutes more). Cool before serving.
