Ingredients

Scale
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1½ cups cold unsalted butter (cubed)
  • 6 to 7 cups sliced apples (peeled and cored)
  • ¾ cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 tablespoons lemon juice
  • Ground cinnamon
  • Ground nutmeg

Instructions

  1. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, and salt. Cut in cold butter until crumbly.
  2. Mix eggs, ice water, and lemon juice in a separate bowl; add to flour mixture and stir until combined.
  3. Divide dough into two pieces, flattening each into rectangles; wrap in plastic wrap and refrigerate for 30 minutes.
  4. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Prepare a 9×13-inch baking pan with cooking spray.
  5. Roll out the larger dough piece to fit the pan, pressing it firmly in place. Fill with apple mixture (sliced apples mixed with sugars and spices).
  6. Roll out the second dough piece, place over filling, trim edges, and cut vents.
  7. Bake for 45–50 minutes until golden brown; cool completely before glazing.
