  • 360 g brewed black coffee
  • 360 g all-purpose flour
  • 300 g granulated sugar
  • 150 g dark brown sugar
  • 75 g unsweetened Dutch cocoa powder
  • 270 g sour cream
  • 3 large eggs
  • 400 g butter (for frosting)

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease round baking pans.
  2. In one bowl, whisk together dry ingredients: flour, sugars, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, and salt.
  3. In another bowl, mix wet ingredients: oil, sour cream, eggs, vanilla extract, and cooled coffee until smooth.
  4. Combine wet and dry mixtures until just combined. Pour into prepared pans.
  5. Bake for 30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean. Cool in pans for 10 minutes before transferring to a rack.
  6. For the buttercream: Beat butter until creamy, then gradually add powdered sugar and mix in vanilla and coffee until fluffy.
  7. Assemble by layering the cakes with buttercream in between and frosting the top.
