Focaccia bread is a delightful Italian flatbread known for its crisp golden crust and soft, airy interior. Perfectly seasoned with olive oil, oregano, and basil, this homemade focaccia elevates any meal, whether served as an appetizer, side dish, or sandwich base.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/4 teaspoons instant yeast
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 1 teaspoon oregano (for topping)
  • 2 teaspoons dried basil (for topping)
  • 1 teaspoon flaky sea salt (for topping)

Instructions

  1. In a medium bowl, whisk together flour, salt, and yeast. Add warm water and mix until a soft, sticky dough forms.
  2. Cover tightly with plastic wrap and refrigerate for 8 to 24 hours.
  3. After chilling, shape the dough into a ball. Grease an 8-inch cake pan with one tablespoon of olive oil and place the dough in the center. Cover again with plastic wrap and let rise at room temperature for about 2 hours.
  4. Preheat the oven to 450°F (232°C). Remove plastic wrap, drizzle remaining olive oil over the dough, create dimples with your fingers, then sprinkle with oregano, basil, and flaky sea salt.
  5. Bake for 22-25 minutes or until golden brown. Allow to cool slightly before serving.
