  • 1 batch Super Flaky Pie Crust or Classic Butter Pie Crust
  • 5 cups blackberries (fresh or frozen)
  • 3/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons fresh orange juice
  • ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon ground allspice
  • Pinch ground ginger
  • Pinch ground cloves
  • Pinch coarse kosher salt

Instructions

  1. Prepare the pie crust and chill for at least 2 hours.
  2. Preheat the oven to 425°F and position racks.
  3. In a bowl, combine blackberries, sugar, cornstarch, orange juice, and spices; let sit for 10 minutes.
  4. Roll out the dough and fit into a pie plate.
  5. Add filling and top with another rolled crust; create vent slits.
  6. Bake on the lower rack for 25 minutes, then reduce heat to 400°F and bake for an additional 25 minutes.
  7. Move to the upper rack and bake until golden brown and bubbly (10-15 minutes more).
  8. Cool on a wire rack for at least 2 hours before serving.
